The 4Cs of Diamonds

by Olga Davidovic

The 4 Cs – cut, color, clarity, and carat

– are the widely accepted standard characteristics for a diamond that determine its quality and value.

Similar to natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds can have slight imperfections called inclusions. Just because a diamond is lab-grown doesn’t mean it’s flawless. When buying a diamond, it’s essential to evaluate the carat, color, clarity, and cut—regardless of whether the diamond is lab-grown or mined.

Diamond Cut:

The cut of a diamond influences its brilliance and sparkle. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully, maximizing its visual appeal. The better the cut, the more radiant the diamond will appear. Each of our diamonds have an excellent/ideal cut and is maximizing light reflection and delivering an exceptional sparkle that enhances its brilliance and beauty.

Diamond Color:

Diamond color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). Diamonds with less color, particularly those closer to D, are rarer and more valuable, increasing their desirability. When choosing a diamond, opting for a higher color grade ensures superior quality and enhances its overall beauty and value.
All our diamonds are graded as colorless, falling within the D-F range, ensuring the highest quality with no visible color.

Diamond Clarity:

Clarity refers to the presence of inclusions or blemishes inside or on the surface of a diamond. Diamonds with fewer imperfections are more valuable and offer enhanced visual appeal, showcasing greater brilliance and overall quality. When shopping for a diamond, selecting one with higher clarity ensures a cleaner, more beautiful stone.
For clarity, our primary recommendation is to ensure the diamond is eye clean, and that inclusions are not interfering with light reflection. All of our diamonds are eye-clean and up to VVS+.

Diamond Carat:

Carat weight measures the size of the diamond, with one carat equaling 0.2 grams. Which carat weight is right for you?  This question has no direct answer. It is a choice that depends on personal preference and budget. When looking at a diamond engagement ring, what is most visible is the size of the surface area on the top of the diamond.
